Artist Statement
My name is Aiyana, and I am 17 years old on my journey of creativity. I work with many different mediums but the ones I have on sale are all acrylic and watercolor. I have had a love for art for as long as I can remember. Art has always been my escape and my way of expressing myself where words cannot. I take inspiration from everything because there’s so much to appreciate and notice in our world. I believe everyone is an artist because if you put enough of your true heart and soul into something, it will be shown as a form of your own art. Art connects people from all around the world. I really do believe that art is a universal language. I hope to continue growing as an artist and sharing my passion with others.

Rainbow Mountain
This painting is inspired by the mountains at Whitewater Ski Resort (Nelson, BC) using color to highlight the beauty of snowy mountains. I was inspired by the local painter Aby Wilson, experimenting with new techniques to share my fascination with the natural world and local scenery.
Rainbow Mountain was featured for the LV Rogers Art Show at Nelson Public Library in December 2024.

Secret Garden
Can you see her?
the woman among the flowers?
Her mystery, her gaze
She lays among a bed flowers, blooming in her praise
She hides amongst her vanity
The secrets she’ll never tell
Beside her blooming flowers
A silence wraps her well
The wind forgets to whisper
The sun forgets to shine
Yet still, the petals open,
As if she is divine.
To create a sense of longing
Or righteous ill disdain
She pulls her bed of flowers
For her secrecy remains

A Sleeping Town
Under a blood moon, this quiet, peaceful town is asleep. As the night takes over, the town is turned into a dream. This acrylic on wood panel was made to represent the idea of “what happens after we fall asleep”: as the night grows darker, the dreams become more vivid and surreal. The blood moon adds an eerie and mystical element to the scene, enhancing the dream-like quality of the painting.

A Jungle Watches
This piece explores the mystery and magic of the jungle — a place that feels both ancient and alive, where every leaf and creature is part of a self-sustaining, watchful world. As I painted, I imagined stepping into that space: Surrounded by lush greenery, eyes hidden in the shadows, and sounds that stir both wonder and unease.
The jungle became a symbol of the unknown — beautiful, dangerous, and quietly powerful. Through this work, I wanted to capture that tension between fear and fascination, and the pull to keep going deeper, even when you’re unsure of what waits within.

Fairly High Mountain Bike Trail
The awesome “Fairly High” trail is one my favorite mountain biking trails. Last summer when I rode Fairly High (with my Dad, who did this website) I stopped to capture a great view from above…

BOB! (Nelson, BC)
The iconic Big Orange Bridge in Nelson, BC.

Wisdom Though a Window
By using abstract composition, I aimed to highlight the value of letting your thoughts wander. The window allows the mind to escape, and the body’s tranquility allows the mind to flourish. The eye will detect more detail the more one looks to the left of the artwork, and as you pull away, you can see the loose and muddled brushstrokes. Using a flat colour scheme and compositional contrast, I purposefully created the painting to make a type of metaphor for how closely one looks at something, allowing the viewer to interpret it in their own way.

The Seer’s Hypnosis
Represents vulnerability and the fear or anxiousness when all eyes are on you. This can manifest as a fear of judgment or a lack of control in social situations. The seers hypnosis can also be a reminder to practice self-compassion and to focus on inner strength, rather than seeking validation from others. It serves as a call to embrace authenticity and trust in oneself.

Dismorphed Individual
Shows diversity in a chaotic collaged way with tangled faces that don’t make sense, creating a unique and unsettling visual experience that challenges traditional notions of beauty and identity. The distorted features and jumbled compositions provoke contemplation on the complexities of human appearance and perception.

Collaborative Creativity
I made this piece from the ideas of someone who saw my work and was inspired. The belief in my art from outside perspectives is part of the reason I continue on my art journey. Through their ideas, I created this piece, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. I appreciate everyone who has believed in me and my art. Thank you.

Dusk Fall
A dystopian city taken over by nature where the creatures of the city and humanity live in harmony. The once bustling streets are now overgrown with vines and moss, creating a surreal landscape where wildlife roams freely among the abandoned buildings. Despite the decay and destruction, a sense of peace and balance has settled over the city as nature reclaims its rightful place.

To me, this piece looks like a city inside the mind. It’s chaotic and beautiful at the same time. The vibrant colors and intricate details give the impression of a bustling metropolis filled with endless possibilities and creativity. The First Sun
I wanted to show my appreciation for the sun after a long winter, and I realized how much joy the sun really brings. The warmth on my skin and the brightness in the sky reminded me of all the beauty that comes with sunny days. It’s amazing how something as simple as sunlight can uplift our spirits and bring a sense of renewal.

Spring Circles
I honestly didn’t know how I was going to express my excitement about the new colors and sunshine, but I just started painting. Each circle holds a different set of colors. It’s like each circle is a little window into a different part of the season, from the bright yellow of daffodils to the soft pink of cherry blossoms. The way they all come together creates a beautiful harmony that captures the essence of spring from my perspective.

Return to Nature
This was one of my first pieces that I started showing people when I said I wanted to be an artist . I wanted to bring people to the places in my mind, show the beauty that I saw, and remind people to look for the beauty.

Perspective Alley
I did this piece in contrast to a few of my others. A lot of my work is bright and colorful, using a lot of light elements and greenery. This piece, on the other hand, is more dark and provokes mystery. The use of shadows and deep tones in this artwork creates a sense of depth and intrigue, drawing the viewer in to explore its hidden details. By experimenting with a different style, I aimed to challenge myself creatively and evoke a different response from my audience.
